George F. Norman
George F. Norman, 98, passed away on June 9, 2019 at Virginia Beach Sentara Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Martha S. Norman. He is also predeceased by his parents, Clark and Bessie Norman, Sr., brother Clark S. Norman, Jr., twin brother Claude V. Norman, mother-in-law Mrs. Benjamin C. Siviter, and brother-in-law Bill Siviter. He is survived by his son George B. Norman, his daughter-in-law Eileen Ritter Norman, his daughter Cathy Norman Stanley, his grandchildren, Krystal Norman Digiulio, Justin J. Norman, Carol Stanley Clegg, Amy Stanley Stanton and seven great-grandchildren.George was born in Norfolk and raised in Park Place, attending Park Place Methodist Church where he met his love, Martha, after WWII. He was reborn at church while a senior at Maury High School. He was an active member of Miles Memorial United Methodist Church and Sunday School. He was president of the Fellowship Sunday School Class in 1969 and 1989. He was a member of the United Methodist Men. He belonged to Elizabeth Lodge #34, Tall Cedars of Lebanon #141 and DAV Chapter 4 Life Member. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. In 1971 he served over-seas 6 months in the Civil Service under Western Pacific Air Command during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Naval Air Station where he was given the Superior Achievement Award June 5, 1971, and the Special Achievement Award August 15, 1975. He retired a second time from the City of Norfolk, Parking Division and earned a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding and Dedicated Service in 1981. George was a life member of VFW Post 3160 and was an honorary member of VFW Riders of Virginia.He requested that his body be donated for science.A Memorial Service will be held at Miles Memorial United Methodist Church, 9450 Granby Street, Norfolk on Saturday, June 15, 4:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Miles Memorial United Methodist Church or the church of your choice. ROBERT "BOB" HARWELL SR.

Robert "Bob" Harwell, 93, passed away on Thursday, September 28th, 2017 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.
"Bob" as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was born October 9th, 1923 to the late Bob and Eva Harwell in Charlotte, North Carolina. He served our country proudly during WWII in the U.S. Army in the 101St Airborne Division and was P.O.W. for several months. To say Bob lived an exciting life would be an understatement. As side from his military service, Bob was a NASCAR driver and drove in the first race at Darlington Motor Speedway, a blocker when people ran moonshine and worked for the Virginian-Pilot as the Day Pressroom Manager where he would work sometimes 2-3 days straight. When he wasn't saving the world or working tirelessly to take care of his family; you could find Bob at "the office" fishing and spending time with his family. Bob will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather.
He will be deeply missed.

Norfolk - William Eugene "Tootie" Liverman, of Virginia Beach, VA, died on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at his home. He was 83. He was born on January 11, 1934 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He married Nina Mae Lowrance, who he will be joining in heaven. William retired as an Electroplater for Naval Station Norfolk and was a retired SSG in the United States Army National Guard. A unique soul, William was very funny, and enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, and gardening. He loved his 2 children, Gary Liverman and Teresa Liverman Evans and his 3 grandchildren, Courtney, Brittney and Tyler, and 4 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Trey, Max and Baby #4 on the way. William will be greatly missed by many.

Cary Lee Jarvis, 94, of Virginia Beach, died April 28, 2016. Born in Norfolk, Virginia on April 13, 1922 the son of the late Cecil and Emily Jarvis. He is predeceased by his son, Cecil Franklin Jarvis; former wife, Nellie Elizabeth Jarvis; and brother, Douglas Franklin Jarvis.
Mr. Jarvis joined the Virginia National Guard, 111th Field Artillery Battalion, and 29th Division in 1939. He was inducted into the United States army at the beginning of World War II and was a staff sergeant when he landed D-Day, first wave, on Omaha beach, a member of the C-Battery of the 111th Artillery Battalion, 29th Division. He had been trained as a forward observer. Mr. Jarvis rose to the rank of first Lieutenant and participated in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. During the winter of 1944-45 in Germany, his division fought to hold and defend a wider front when the Battle of the Bulge took place... At this time, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. In January 2015, Mr. Jarvis was awarded the French Legion of honor, the highest decoration bestowed by the French government. In February, 2015, The Senate of Virginia presented Mr. Jarvis with a Senate Resolution for his exceptional service to his country and selfless contributions to the liberation of Europe during World War II.
He was a member of Great Neck Baptist Church and Post 5 of the 29th Division. Mr. Jarvis was an avid fisherman, gardener, and enjoyed restoring Model A cars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Mary Ella Jarvis; his children, Cary D. Jarvis of Norfolk, Thelma J. Peterson of Machipongo, VA, Walter E. Jarvis of Norfolk, Catherine J. Simmons and husband, Kenneth, of Virginia Beach, and step-daughter, Johanna Wickers of Chatham, VA; grandchildren, Erika Peterson and husband, Cris and Charles Peterson; and great grandchildren, Victor and Rosa Nellie Peterson.
A celebration of Mr. Jarvis' life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Great Neck Baptist Church, 1020 General Jackson Dr., Va. Bch. with Dr. K. Todd Holt, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Inurnment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Norfolk - Alfred Vance Langston, 93, passed away on February 2, 2016.
Mr. Langston was born in Kinston, N.C. He was retired civil service and a disabled veteran of WWII of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW 3160, Ocean View. He participated at CCC Camp Dominion Shoals, in 1937, Cape Hatteras, N.C.
He is predeceased in death by his wife, Annie Thelma Langston of 55 years.

Charlie E. Joyner, age 87, born on June 24, 1928, in Roberta, Ga., passed away peacefully in his home in the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 15, 2016.
Charlie joined the Marine Corps at the ripe old age of 16 and retired after 20 years of serving his beloved country in World War II (South Pacific) and Korea (The Battle of Chosin Reservoir). He retired from the Marine Corps as a decorated Sergeant. He spent 22 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator at the Marine Corps Support facility (Blount Island near Jacksonville, Fla.) and also at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
For many years he was an active life member of the VFW Post 3160, The Fleet Reserve Branch 60, and the American Legion Post 327, all located in Ocean view Norfolk, Va.
Charlie and his late sister (Irene Joyner Dudley) were orphaned as young children from a tragic accident that took the lives of their parents, and were adopted by William B. Harris and Mable E. Harris, whom he loved dearly.
After 42 years of serving his country in one fashion or another, Charlie relocated to Norfolk, Va., to be near his beloved sister Irene, and her husband Vaughn Dudley Sr. and their children Patricia, Vaughn Jr. and his wife Janice.
While living in Norfolk, Charlie met his soul mate, Earlene Stansell. They lived together for nearly 20 years before moving to Brockway, Pa., this past summer, at which time Charlie became a life member of the American Legion Post 95 in Brockway. Though never married, they shared the love and compassion for one another that any married couple would dream of.
With this relationship came an extended family which Charlie greeted with open arms and as much love. Daughters Bess (Matt) Townsend of California and Judy Summerlin of Maryland; son Walter (Tammy) Stansell of Brockway; granddaughter Crystal (Ben) Gloeckner of Virginia and great-grandchildren Hunter and Beckett.
Not enough good could be said of this great man, and his untiring quest to do right by all who knew him. Forever loved and missed.
All services will be private for Charlie and he will be interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Va.

Norfolk - Emma Lee Ralph, 86, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015. She was born in Homer, GA on June 5, 1929. She was predeceased by her parents, Johnson and Pearl Ray of Banks County; five brothers; and three sisters.
Emma was a member of American Legion Aux. post 327, Veterans of Foreign Wars Aux. post 3160, Fleet Reserve Aux. Club 60, and Democratic Social Club of Ocean View.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 38 years, Joseph R. Ralph; children, Donald, Dian, Mark, and Angel; step-children, Sherry, Robert, and Eddie; her twin sister, Wortie Lee Pittenger of Norfolk, VA; and sister, Peggy Coffey and her husband Larry of Lincolnton, N.C.

Chesapeake - Albert Rich, Sr., 84, of Chesapeake went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on January 19, 1931. He was predeceased by his parents, step-son, Stephen Savage and granddaughter, Misty Howard.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth J. Rich; son, Albert Rich, Jr. (Bonny); daughter, Connie Marie Marshall (Cory); step-son, David Savage (Angela). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Albert served his country for 3 years in the United States Marine Corps in Korea. He served as a long distance truck driver for 35 accident free years. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as Second District Commander, Department of Virginia in 1968.
Albert was an active member of Centerville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and usher. His special ministry was visiting home-bound and hospitalized persons. He was elected Deacon Emeritus at his church.
He was a member of Atlantic Masonic Lodge #2, Norfolk, Khedive Shrine, Chesapeake, and the Scottish Rite, Norfolk.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2015 at Centerville Baptist Church, 908 Centerville Tnpk. South, Chesapeake, 23322, with Pastor Kevin Ritter officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk.

Norfolk - Gerald "Jerry"F. Lupejkis, 84, passed away on August 15, 2015. He was born on June 22, 1932 to the late Francis and Betty Lupejkis in Buffalo, New York. He is predeceased by his first wife Pat.
Jerry served his country 30 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Master Chief. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, and was past CDR DAV Chapter 20, Virginia Beach. He was also a member of the American Legion FRA and the Democratic Club and he flew his flag daily.
Jerry is survived by his wife Mary Lee Lupejkis; three sons Jeffery, Ben, and Jay; one step-son F.M. Joe Hall; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and three sisters Anastasia of NY, Linda of NJ and Dolly of CT.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 6-8pm at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 818 Norview Ave., Norfolk VA 23509.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:30am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at A.G. Horton, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk VA 23434 at 2:30pm. Norfolk - David Gordon McDonald, age 71, resident of Norfolk, Virginia, died June 2, 2015. Dave served his country in Vietnam before returning to civilian life to work for the U.S. Navy in the early days of computer technology giving him a grand opportunity to learn and practice computer skills on ships from Guam to Sicily before settling in Norfolk in 1993.
In retirement Dave took great pleasure in gardening, raising some fine vegetables and fruits and developing his culinary skills as the variety of plants he cultivated increased, so that the term "Old McDonald Had a Farm" became a reality.
Dave was born in Dallas, Texas in 1943. He is survived by sisters Karen and Diane and brother Kenneth, as well as Ken's children, and by still beloved ex-wife Margaret of San Diego, California. No longer sharing daily telephone chats and e-mails with Dave will be an inestimable loss to sister Diane and brother-in-law, Jim.
He will also be missed by Johanna, a good friend who often helped Dave with chores and gave assistance in some medical emergencies, and by his friends and good neighbors. The family would like to thank the Norfolk Police Department for their kind service and dedication.
